Q1 How and when did
Operation Tarshish
begin?
A - Operation Tarshish
began in 1991 with the arrival of the Christian Venturer into Haifa
Port. This 60 foot schooner was on her way to Odessa, Ukraine, to pick
up Soviet Jews and bring them to Israel. The skipper encouraged
Christian volunteers in Jerusalem to start sending out newsletters to
others who had a similar calling or desire to see Jews being brought
back to their Land.
Q2 Where does
Operation Tarshish
get it's name?
A - Operation Tarshish
get its name from Isaiah 60:9 which says,
"Surely the islands look to me; in
the lead are the ships of Tarshish, bringing your sons from afar,
with their silver and gold, to the Holy One of Israel, for He has
endowed you with splendour. (NIV)
Q3 What exactly does
Operation Tarshish
do?
A - At present Operation
Tarshish is sending out newsletters to inform captains,
skippers, prayer-partners and intercessors, about the situation in the
former Soviet Union, in Israel, and with Jews around the world,
especially where it concerns the Aliyah (immigration to Israel). We
believe that when the time is right, God will have a huge fleet of
vessels ready to assist in the exodus of Jews, which will fulfill the
scripture that says ships of Tarshish
will bring them back.
Operation Tarshish is
presently working together with other ministries, and with it's branches
in the Ukraine and Russia,
Wings of Doves is assisting poor and underprivileged Jews and
bringing them to the to place where they can escape the terrible
conditions in the former Soviet Union and come to Biblical homeland,
Israel.
Operation Tarshish is
also sending out
Weekly
Newsflashes by email, organizing tours to Israel, addressing sharing
in Aliyah conferences, Bible studies or prayer meetings. (If you would
like someone from Operation Tarshish
to address your group please contact us through our
Response Page.
Q4 Where does
Operation Tarshish
hope to collect these Jews?
A - Isaiah 60:9 says that they will come
"from afar." At present the main need is to
get the Jews out of the former Soviet Union, and that is from where
ships are presently bringing them out. However the time will come when
the Jews will have to flee from "all the countries
where He has scattered them" (Ezekiel 11:17, Ezekiel 20:34) and
then the ships of Tarshish will
bring them from the four corners of the earth.
Q5 When will the
ships of Tarshish
be needed?
A - We believe that Operation
Tarshish will need it's ships to rescue the Jews from
"the land of the north" when the doors to
the former Soviet Union slam shut and the persecution of Jews begin once
more. Some Christians have shared visions of Jews standing on the sea
shore waiting to be picked up and transported to safety, and one was
even given the word "Dunkirk" to describe how the Jews would be rescued
in small boats or ships!
Q6 How much time do we still
have?
A - When the doors to the former Soviet Union opened
for the Jews to escape, the Holy Spirit made many aware that it would
only be for a limited time. Every moment the doors remain open is grace
from the Lord. No-one knows for sure how long the Jews still have to get
out but we should become involved while we can.
Q7 How many staff are currently involved with Operation Tarshish?
A - At the moment Operation
Tarshish only has a handful of volunteers in different
countries who are assisting whenever any needs arise. As yet there are
no full time workers in the Operation Tarshish
ministry. Our branches of
Wings of Doves in the former Soviet Union do have full-time workers
dedicated to helping the Jews come home.

Q8 How is
Operation Tarshish
funded at present?
A - Operation Tarshish
is funded out of donations from brothers and sisters who are touched
by the love of God to help see His Covenant Peoples being brought home
to Israel. Without these gifts, whether large or small,
Operation Tarshish would be unable
to continue it's appointed task. Until now,
Operation Tarshish has not had to ask for any subscription
fees, and through your continued giving, we hope to keep it that way.
But the time is coming when we will have to give, and give
sacrificially, to see God's children brought home.

Q9 Who will look after the Jews when then they arrive in Israel?
A - The Jews who arrive in Israel are looked after by
the Jewish Agency and the Israeli Government. They see that the new Olim
(Immigrants) have accommodation and are looked after until they have
learned the Hebrew language, have obtained employment, and are able to
"stand on their own two legs!" Christian organizations like Bridges for
Peace, Christian Friends of Israel, the International Christian Embassy
Jerusalem, and others are showing the love of Yeshua by assisting
wherever possible.
Q10 How
many Jews are still in the former Soviet Union?
A - This is a very difficult question to answer
accurately for as God told Abraham that his descendants would be as "the
stars in the sky and as the sand on the seashore," (Genesis 22:17) so it
is today - the Jews cannot be numbered. Many Jews in the former Soviet
Union have "hidden" their identity due to anti-Semitism, which makes it
difficult to know how many are still there. However, figures vary
between one and two million and even more! Figures differ according to
which group has taken the poll.

Q11 Do Jews want to leave?
A - Most of the Zionistic Jews left as soon as the
doors to the former Soviet Union opened. Those remaining can see the
situation deteriorating and have their passports ready, but are
unwilling to leave their homes, jobs, families and friends for an
uncertain life in a foreign land. The younger Jews see that there is no
future in the former Soviet Union and want to immigrate, but usually to
the USA or Germany and not to Israel.
Q12 What is the
situation like in Israel?
A - It is easy to give the 10 spy report and mention
the giants in the land (read Numbers 13 - 14) but instead we want to
quote Joshua and Caleb, "The land is exceedingly
good ... a land flowing with milk and honey ... Only do not be afraid of
the people ... the Lord is with us!" Yes, there are difficulties
to overcome, but through faith and trust in the God of Israel He will
cause them to triumph, and is causing them to triumph. Those who
made Aliyah many years ago are now firmly established in Israel and are
benefitting from the blessings of the land.
Q13 Why should
Christians be involved?
A - When God spoke about this Exodus through His
prophets He said that Christians would be involved (Isaiah 14:2, Isaiah
49:22, Romans 11:11). We "Gentile Believers" have the privilege of
fulfilling prophecy by being a part of God's great end-time regathering
of His people. Then there is the wonderful promise that if we bless the
descendants of Abraham we will be blessed! (Genesis 12:3)
Q14 What
is fishing?
A - From Jeremiah 16:16 we know that God is going to
send for Fishers to "fish" His Covenant Peoples home. There are
presently "fishing" teams working in the former Soviet Union to call the
Jews back to Israel.

Q15
And the Hunters ...?
A - We can see the anti-Semitic "hunters" rearing
their evil heads. These hunters, who are to come after the fishers, will
hunt God's chosen down. We can see these modern Hitlers in power or
competing for positions of authority in the Governments of our nations.
We need to become fishers to warn and call back the Jews before the
hunters begin their murderous acts.
Q16 Does
Operation Tarshish
work together with other Jewish or Christian organizations?
A - Operation Tarshish
is working with other organizations who are are involved in this
exodus and whenever available we publish information about their work.
Operation Tarshish works with
Bridges for Peace to send out our
Weekly Newsflash
from Israel by email. Our
newsletters
include information from the Christian Friends of Israel, International
Christian Embassy Jerusalem, Word of Life, Hotline, Arutz-7, and others.
Organizations like Christian Boaters Association, Maritime Ministries,
and Jayim Israel Ministries, have close ties with
Operation Tarshish.
Q17 What are the needs of
Operation Tarshish?
A - The first and main need is for prayer. Please will
you pray and intercede for this ministry, and for the return of the Jews
to Israel. Please subscribe to our
Weekly Newsflash
from Israel emailing list. Other needs include boats, ships or
fishing vessels, available captains or skippers, plus anyone else who is
willing to help in the great Second Exodus.
Q18 How
can I help?
A - We are told to bless the Jews
materially -
Romans 15:27 - and they are to receive our
gifts of "silver and gold!" - Isaiah 60:9
By helping our ministry financially you will assist us greatly.
You can become a "fisher", through your prayers and
you can become a "fisher", through your giving.
If you are a captain or skipper then we need you to
avail yourself to be used when this great exodus truly begins.
If you have a boat, yacht or ocean-going vessel you
can donate it or make it available to the
Operation Tarshish ministry for this rescue of Jews. We also
need people with willing hands and open hearts, who have a love for
God's Covenant Peoples, the Jews!
